Joyce Godfrey Simpson

Joyce Godfrey Simpson, age 69, of Carthage, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at FirstHealth Hospice House, surrounded by her family.

A graveside service will be held at the home, 130 Jannie Lane, Carthage NC 28327 on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

Joyce was born in Sanford, North Carolina on March 8, 1948 to Milton Sandy and Willie McGehee Godfrey. Joyce was a handmaiden of the Lord and took great joy in working for Him.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Johnny Simpson; children, John D. Simpson of Carthage, Cindy A. Childress also of Carthage, Ola Stinnett of Cameron; sisters, Peggy Williams of Cary, Dolly Carmichael of Olivia, Bonnie Carmichael of Georgia; brothers, Tommy Godfrey of Cameron and Daniel Godfrey of Chatham County; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Sandy and Willie McGehee Godfrey; brothers, Sandy, Johnny, Wade, Willie, Jack and Bobby.
