Peter Madsen, age 82, of Vass, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Westfield Nursing Home, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Rodda officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Peter was born in New York on October 7, 1934 to the late Reinhard and Anna Madsen.
He began his career in 1957 and spent his 37 year career working as an educator in Monroe County, New York. He retired with his wife Marilyn to Vass in 1990. Peter and Marilyn were instrumental in the creation of the Vass Area Library.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Madsen; children Peter Madsen and his wife Palma of New York, Richard Madsen and wife Geralyn of New Jersey, Ann Madsen Sceri and husband Vincent of New York, and James Madsen and his wife Alice, of South Carolina; sister, Carol Madsen of New York, nephews Peter and Anthony Mendola; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peter Madsen may be made to the Friends of Vass Library, P. O. Box 655, Vass, NC 28394.
