Charles was born on April 13, 1936 in Hanover County, Virginia to Charles Ray Lassiter and Mary Lorene Eller Lassiter.  He resided in Greensboro, NC and Star, NC for most of his childhood, graduating from Star High School in 1954.  He married Beulah Mae Hall of Robbins, NC at her family home on September 25, 1964.  They made residence in Star, NC, where their only child Leon Keith Lassiter was born.  Charles worked at Capel’s Rug Mill in Troy, NC for many years.  He began playing the piano by ear at the age of 15, and played and sang with many local quartets, traveling quite extensively throughout Montgomery County and its surrounding counties for many years.  He was very active in church, and served in various positions before answering a call to preach.  He was licensed to preach by New Hope Baptist Church in Star, NC on August 8, 1971.  On May 20, 1973 he was ordained as a minister and began serving as a pastor, which he did for 37 ½ years.  During the duration of his ministry, he officiated in 43 wedding services, his final wedding being that of his eldest granddaughter Laresa Michelle Lassiter in June of 2013.  He conducted or assisted in conducting 186 funerals during his ministry, and provided every minute detail of his own funeral specifics in writing before his passing.  His first pastorate was at Riverside Baptist Church in the rural Seagrove, NC area where he served until November 1980.  In November of 1980, he began pastoring his second and final pastorate at Pineywood Baptist Church in rural Cameron, NC.  He would serve as pastor here as its longest tenured pastor to date, serving until November 2010, when he retired from the ministry, having served as Pineywood’s pastor for exactly 30 years.  Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to Monroe, NC to reside with their son from 2010 until May 2016.  While in Monroe, he was still active in church, and was called upon many times to fill pulpits.  In May 2016, due to a change in their son’s career, they moved to the Norfolk, Virginia area, where he was residing at the time of his passing.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beulah Mae Hall Lassiter; son, Leon Keith Lassiter; granddaughters, Laresa Michelle Lassiter Griimwood and husband Eric of Statesville, NC, Lanette Renae Lassiter of Hamptonville, NC and Hannah Lee Lassiter of West End, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ray Lassiter and Mary Lorene Eller Lassiter.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, due to his somewhat lengthy illness over the last year, donations be made to Cox Memorial Funeral Home, P O Box 651, Vass NC 28394 to assist with burial expenses.
