Rev. Charles King Obituary

Rev. Charles King was born on September 20, 1934, in Yancey County, NC to his proud parents Ralph and Nancy English. Good Friday March 29, 2024, he departed to be the with the Lord.

As a young boy, his stepfather Clint King adopted him, and was a positive influence on his life. God has blessed Charles with long life. He shared that his life was not easy. However, he stated if he had to do it over again, he would not change any of his life experiences.

Charles accepted Jesus Christ in his life in 1963 in Burnsville NC. Shortly after, his wife Opal accepted Jesus as her personal savior and received the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Charles did evangelism ministry for a period of time from 1963 to 1967. On April 15, 1967, Charles received his minister’s license from the Church of God of Prophecy. There after he started pastoring.  Rev. Charles King pastored for fifty-three years in the Church of God of prophecy. Listening to him telling his story he sounded like a traveling salesman. However, he was not selling any merchandise, what he had he gave freely.

He was spreading the gospel and making disciples. He took the gospel to multiple areas of North Carolina, according to Church of God prophesy records, the places he pastored are Burnsville, Penrose, Robbins, Candor, Mocksville, Albemarle, Concord, Salisbury, Woodlawn and Carthage. In all he pastored ten churches. He spent substantial time in each area to make a difference. He spent thirty-two years in Carthage, NC. He ministered there until he became ill and was unable to continue as their shepherd. He expresses a deep abiding love for God, the church, and his congregation in Carthage. Rev. King was loyal, loving, kind, gentle and humble. He characterizes as a man with a quiet spirit. He is not the person that command the center of attention. Yet, he stands out in a crowd.

In addition to preaching the word of God, Rev. King has worked at Wilson Tree Company, Textile Mill in Robbins NC, the chicken plant in Dobson NC, Furniture store in West End, and Food Lion supermarket in Carthage NC, where he retired from. Along with having his own lawn care company, which he had to give up due to his illness.
