Patricia "Patti" Lynn Smith, age 63, of Sanford, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at East Sanford Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Gibson and Rev. Bob Yandle officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.
Patti was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on April 16, 1956. She was the daughter of the late Charles "Chuck" Holly and Shirley Dickens Holly and was raised in Sanford. She was a graduate of Sanford Central High School and attended Gardner Webb University.
After receiving a cosmetology degree in Fayetteville, she operated her own hair salon business until moving with her family to Knoxville, TN. In 1987 she moved to Columbia, SC and worked as an office assistant for a real estate school and a developer. Patti was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, served as a Deacon and was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class. She also served as a volunteer for the elementary school her children attended. She returned to Sanford in 1999.
Patti loved crafts and for a time sold decoupage plates to shops. She also took up painting and knitting. She loved animals and pets of all kinds and raised love birds in Columbia. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her mother, Shirley Dickens Holly; children, Jacob Smith (Cynthia) of Virginia, Stephanie Smith of South Carolina; ex-husband, Tim Smith of South Carolina; brothers, John C. Holly (Melanie) of Mamers and Van Holly (Alicia) of Broadway; sister, Lydia Diane Holly of South Carolina; grandchildren, Rocco and Isadora and her furry friends, Lucy and Trouble.
