Doris (Cox) Gates

Doris Cox Gates, age 89, of Laurinburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Scotland Regional Hospice, with her family by her side.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Cemetery with Rev. James H. Bumgardner officiating..

Doris was born in Sanford, North Carolina on November 9, 1930 to the late Robert Lee and Ara Davis Cox.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gates, sister, Maxine Creech, brother, William C. Cox. Doris spent most of her life as a homemaker and later in life worked with the schools systems. She gave many years of service to her community and church.  She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Allen Gates (Pat) of Laurinburg, Pat Jowers (Wayne) of South Carolina, Sandra Barber (Clarence) of Laurinburg, Kathy Lowery (Ray) also of Laurinburg, Mark Gates (Eliza) of Raleigh; sister, Bonnie McLeod of Nashville, NC; grandchildren, Bucky Gates (Lindsay), Merrit Gates, Kyle Gates (Catherine), Paige Gates, Jenna Herandez, Eric Pfistner (Helena), Keisha Lingelbach, Sarah Gates; great-grandchildren, Sapphira, Aviglia, Natalie, Hayden, Aubrey, Addalyn, Carmen, Victor, Moe, Valeria, Sofia, Gabriella, Sebastian, Savannah and Joshua and a very special friend W.E. “Gene” Peele.
