Judith Elaine (Waddell) Cress

Judith Waddell Cress, age 71, passed away peacefully following a brief illness, on January 7, 2022 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Vass, with Dr. Mark Carver officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11 until 12 at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Wayside Evangelical Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sanford. Due to COVID, the family requests that everyone wear a mask.

Judith was born on May 13, 1950 to the late Walter Raleigh Waddell and Myrtle Ketner Waddell. Judith grew up helping tend to the family farm, learning early the value of hard work. She graduated from Benhaven High School in 1968 and went on to work for Stanadyne later called Moen, retiring after 35 years of service. Judith was a lifelong member of Wayside Evangelical Presbyterian Church, serving in various capacities, including Church Elder. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and traveling, especially those road trips to the North Carolina Mountains. Without a doubt, her greatest blessing was her family whom she loved and adored. She spent many years caring for her mother, Myrtle until her passing in 2019. She was a devoted wife to her husband Randy and always took the opportunity to share how proud she was of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Randy; children, Michael Bryan Childress and Rachel Childress Burns (Darin); sister, Marsha Waddell; grandchildren, Jacob Childress, Samuel Childress, Trystan Childress, Evie Childress, Logan Burns, Ethan Burns and Madeline Grace Burns; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Judith, to Wayside Evangelical Presbyterian Church, PO Box 95 Cameron, NC 28326.
