Leonard Hervey Whitaker

Leonard Hervey Whitaker, age 84, of Vass, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1 until 2.  Burial will follow in Johnson Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.

Hervey was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina on January 4, 1936 to the late Leonard Aaron and Minnie Miller Whitaker. He spent his working career as a General Contractor and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Rollins Whitaker; daughters, Deborah Ann Fowler of Vass and Denise Vee Morton (David) of Florida; sister, Tina Foster of Southern Pines; brothers, Gene Whitaker (Doris), Ray Whitaker (Mary Alice), Mike Whitaker (Linda) and Bill Whitaker; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sons, Danny Lynn Whitaker and Douglas Dewayne Whitaker; sisters, Nancy, Kathleen, Jeanette, Joanna and Rosa.
