Rachel Smith (Frye) Thomas

Rachel Smith Frye Thomas, age 86, of Concord, formerly of Vass, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Pinehurst Health & Rehab, surrounded by her family.

Rachel was born in Moore County on September 30, 1935 to the late Lucian Brooks and Gladys Smith Frye. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Waylon Blue Thomas, a son, Michael Blue Thomas, sister, Rebecca Lois King.

Rachel was a loving homemaker and later worked as a teacher’s aide. She enjoyed working with children through her church and school. She will be greatly missed by her loving family.

She is survived by her son, Jason Thomas (Jennifer) of Manteo; sisters, Ruth Frye Hendrick of Florida, Ann Frye Wallace (John) of Vass; brothers, William Brooks Frye of Vass, Joseph Franklin Frye (Ruth) of Vass, Samuel Morris Frye (Dana) of South Carolina; grandson, Jacob Cruz Thomas of Four Oaks; great-grandson, Jensen Thomas.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11:00am at Johnson Grove Cemetery in Vass with Pastor Bill Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside at Vass United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
