Doris Bowen

Doris Jeanette Defee Bowen, age 89, of Sanford, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018.

A Celebration of Life will be held at East Sanford Baptist Church on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robbie Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the Church.

Doris was born May 6, 1928, in Florence, SC, the only child of the late John Morgan Defee and Maude Randall Defee. She attended East Sanford Baptist Church, where she took part in several mission trips. Doris was an accomplished seamstress and taught tailoring and sewing classes at Central Carolina Technical Institute. Later, she managed Bowen Car Care. Doris enjoyed gardening and rearranged plants in her yard like most people rearrange furniture in their homes. Her greatest joy was found in taking care of her family. She was the wife of Larry Wayne Bowen, Sr., devoted mother to her daughter, Rebecca (Becky), and son Wayne, and grandmother to Paige, Morgan and Christopher. Doris was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter.

She is survived by her son, Larry Wayne Bowen, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, of Sanford, granddaughter Paige Bowen Batchelor of Surfside Beach, SC, and grandsons Morgan Bowen and Christopher Bowen, of the home.
