Lee Burns Obituary

Lee P. Burns, age 84, of Southern Pines, NC, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 after a short but defiant battle with cancer in his home surrounded by his family.
 

A Funeral Mass Celebrating his Life will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst with Father John Fords officiating.

Lee was born in Orange, NJ on August 26, 1933 to Samuel and Sarah Birnbaum (Burns). He graduated Montclair State Teacher’s College in 1955 and spent his working career as an Elementary School Principal in Morris County, NJ.  In 1993 he retired to Woodlake in Vass, NC with his wife, Jean, and later moved to Southern Pines. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he will be remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, his love of sports - especially the New York and San Francisco Giants - and the game of golf.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, his children, David (wife, Margaret), Deborah, Douglas, Jean’s children, Anthony Jr., Cynthia (husband, Richard), Michael (wife, Ria), Jennifer (husband, Kevin), nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Sarah, his In-laws, Ann and Frank, and his sister, Dorothea.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA. 22102.
