Margaret Jean McCarthy

Margaret Jean McCarthy, age 92, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Haymount Rehab and Nursing Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville with Pastor John Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.

Margaret was born in Salemburg, North Carolina on January 19, 1927 to Wiley Butler Cooper and Mildred Huggins Cooper. She was a faithful member of her church until her health failed.  Margaret gave many years of service to her community and church, having served in various church positions, one of which was a consultant for mission’s development.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sisters, Rebecca Dawkins of Fayetteville, Grace Ivey of Eastover, North Carolina; special cousin, Margie Huggins and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley Butler Cooper and Mildred Huggins Cooper; husband, Lonnie Bryant McCarthy; sisters, Elizabeth Cooper Warren and Rometta Cooper; brothers, William, Robert, Charles, Norman, Jimmy and Wiley.
