Shirley Joan McCaskill

Shirley Joan McCaskill, age 80, of Sanford, formerly of Vass, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at UNC Hospice House in Pittsboro, surrounded by her loving family.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Vass with Pastor John Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeview.

Joan was born on June 21, 1938 to Weldon and Margaret Stewart.  She was a homemaker and spent her life caring for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Connie McCaskill Alligood (Daryl) of Virginia, Carolyn McCaskill Underwood (Russell) of Sanford, Charles Michael McCaskill (Teresa) of Aberdeen, Dr. Cynthia McCaskill Walker (Jim) of Holly Springs; sister, Glenda Stewart Miller of Texas; grandchildren, Leslie, Chris, Craig, Will, Daniel, Michelle, Christy, Irene and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Mia and Tres.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richard McCaskill; daughter, Cathy Jo McCaskill Davis; brother, Randy Stewart.
