Charles Collins Obituary

Charles Lee Collins, Sr., age 70, of Vass, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 3:00pm at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Brown officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Charles was born in Sanford, North Carolina on September 3, 1953, to the late LeRoy Collins and Myrtle Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Christian Collins, sister, Vicky Ann, brother-in-law, Robert Fowler.

He leaves behind his children, Paula Nieves (Tito) Of Lobelia, Tracy Paterson (Justin) of Greenville, Kelly Kennedy of Lobelia, Charles Lee Collins, Jr. also of Lobelia; sisters, Tammy Collins Hobgood (Mike) of Lobelia, Kathy Collins Fowler; brothers, Ralph Edward Collins of Carthage, Roy Wayne Collins of Burlington; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Charles will always be known as a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.  He was a strong, outgoing and a kind, God fearing man.  Growing up on a farm in the beautiful state of North Carolina with his brothers and sisters, he knew all about hard work and had an appreciation for it.  This is where we believe he learned how to be incredibly patient.  That same patience gave him 51 years of being happily married.  We always knew when he was exercising that patience; he would be humming a tune.  He was the man you could call for anything and if he couldn’t help you, he would find someone who could.  He worked hard and was very devoted to his family and friends.  He had a career working for the state ensuring we all had safe roads.  Even with his full-time job, he still took time to make his family his top priority.  His hobbies were Nascar, hunting, fishing and gardening which provided food for the family and the surrounding community.  As an avid hunter and fisherman, he was almost too good at these proving that practice does make perfect.  His crops and venison will always be personal favorites.  He spent many a weekend with family and friends enjoying music and if the right tune was playing, he would start “cuttin a rug”. He loved to dance and just have a good time, taking delight in the little things.  We couldn’t have asked for a better Papa.  He brought so much joy into our lives and every time we think of him, we smile.  Until we meet again, we will always love you and will forever cherish you.
