Christine Holden Obituary

On October 21, 2021, Christine Crumpler Holden, opened her eyes to the face of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Born on February 5, 1924 to Blackmon and Lena Crumpler, Christine lived her entire life in the heart of Sampson County.  She graduated from Herring High School and was an active member of Clement Baptist Church until her health declined in recent years.

Christine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and was a wonderful combination of warmth and kindness to all who knew her. Her biggest blessing and accomplishment was her family.  She was a Christian in the truest form and lived her life as a daily example to others.  There were not many times that you wouldn't find her playing her piano for her grandchildren when they were younger.  "The Old Rugged Cross" was one of her favorite hymns to play.

An excellent seamstress, Christine designed and cut out her own patterns and got her start in sewing by making her own doll clothes which then turned in to making dresses and other clothes for her herself, her daughter and her grand-daughter. Not only was she an amazing seamstress, she filled her home with wonderful food for her family.  From her delicious cakes, blueberry cobblers (made from the blueberries in her yard) to vegetables and a spaghetti sauce that is still unmatched at any restaurant, she was an excellent Southern cook.

As incredible as her sewing and cooking gifts were to others, Christine's love for her family was at the core of who she was.  She valued her calling of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother above all others.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021  at 3pm at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg with Pastor Scott Keith and Reverend James Dees officiating.

Christine was the wife of the late Reverend J.B. (Joshua Butler) Holden.  Together they created a life that they were proud of with four children.  She was preceded in death by her twin sister Berline Autry, and siblings Estelle Tharrington, Louise Crumpler, Roy Crumpler, David Crumpler, Claudie Crumpler, Evan Crumpler and her son, Sammy Holden.

She is survived by her daughter Christy Boyette and husband Wayne of Clinton, sons Oral and wife Shari of Wade and Kevin and wife Kim of Wilson and daughter-in-law Sue Holden of Clinton; her grandchildren Melissa Boyette Scibor and husband Jason of Raleigh, Justin Boyette and wife Lindsay of Wake Forest, Mark Holden and wife Grace of  Wade, Steven Holden and wife Allison of Roseboro, Candace Holden Mosteller and husband Joshua of Pennsylvania and Alexis Holden of Wilson; and her great-grandchildren Annabelle Franklin, Genevieve Christine Scibor, Stella Holden, Atlas Holden, Evelyn Holden, Holden Mosteller, Hudson Mosteller and Holden Boyette.
