Cleete Michael "Mike" Whitaker

Cleete Michael “Mike” Whitaker, age 72, of Carthage, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eugene Ussery officiating. Burial will follow in Cameron Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1 until 2.

Mike was born in Moore County on June 5, 1948 to Leonard Aaron and Minnie Miller Whitaker. He spent his working career as a truck driver and was an avid fisherman. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend and will be truly missed but not forgotten.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Hall Whitaker; children, Karen Baker and husband Robbie of Carthage and Crystal Whitaker also of Carthage; grandchildren, Amber and husband Drew, Caitlin, Zach, Ethan and Elizabeth and one great-grandson, Wyatt; sister, Tina Foster of Southern Pines; brothers, Gene Whitaker and wife Doris of Vass, Ray Whitaker and wife Mary Alice of Carthage and Bill Whitaker of High Falls and sister-in-law, Mary Whitaker of Vass.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Nancy, Kathleen, Jeannette, Joanna and Rosa; brother, Leonard Hervey Whitaker.
