Curtis Langager Obituary

Curtis Dale Langager was born on July 31st, 1950 in Sisseton, SD. He was the youngest son of Jacob T. and Marcella J. Langager, both proud descendants of Norwegian immigrants.

When he was 12 years old, he and his family moved to Rapid City where he first attended South Jr. High School, and went on to graduate from Rapid City High School in 1968.

In 1974 he met the love-of-his-life, Kathryn Mercy, and the two married on April 18th, 1975. On that same day, he officially became the very proud and devoted step-dad to Ron, Lori, and Kim.

Curtis and Kathy passed through Colorado Springs, CO while on their honeymoon and immediately fell in love with the area. On a hope and a prayer, they decided to relocate their young family there, and settled into a quaint two-story house in the Eastern part of town.

Over the next few years, they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Heather, and their son, Justin, and their family of 7 was complete! That same little two-story house was where they called HOME for the remainder of their lives together, and it was filled with more love, laughter, and memories than could ever be counted.

Curtis was employed by Colorado Springs Transit from 1980 until 2009. He was a professional bus driver, and he loved the part of his job that allowed him to meet and help people all throughout the city, and from all walks of life. He had a servant's heart, and his job allowed this amazing quality to really shine through. He was incredibly well-respected by all who knew him, as he was honest, hard-working, dependable (to a fault), generous, patient, and had a great sense of humor! He was also usually the smartest person in the room, but you'd probably never know it, because he was undoubtedly the most humble person in the room, too. However, if a game of Trivial Pursuit ever broke out, there was never any question... If you had Curtis on your team, you were absolutely going to win!

Curtis loved sports, and throughout his childhood and adult life he was always extremely active. He loved skiing, hiking, golfing, playing league softball and volleyball, billiards, and tennis... Even in his 60's he could beat the pants off of most anybody in a tennis match!

But out of all the things he enjoyed in life, he loved his family the most, and always put them and their needs first. Kathy was his wife and best-friend for 46 years, and their marriage was the embodiment of devotion, forgiveness, and unconditional love. They weren't perfect individuals, but they were perfect for each other, and made a beautiful family and life together.

Curtis was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in the spring of 2018. True to his character, he faced his illness with strength and courage, but put his faith in God. Whatever God's plan was for his life, and his death, Curtis knew it had purpose, and he didn't complain. He was incredibly grateful for the life he lived... He wasn't rich by the world's standards, but he felt like he had won the lottery when it came to family and friends.

After Kathy passed away on April 22nd, 2021 from complications related to COPD, Curtis went to live with his youngest daughter in North Carolina, where he lived out his days until he was called to his Heavenly home on September 25th, 2022. There is no doubt that he heard the voice of God that day, saying, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. Well done."

Curtis was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy, his parents, Jacob and Marcella, and his grandson, Hayden.

He is survived by his older brother, Gregory Langager, and all five of his children: Ron Wilcox (Cindy), Lori St.Pierre (Eric), Kimberly Tague (Michael), Heather Martens (Troy), and Justin Langager; as well as 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

An official "Celebration of Life" is planned for June 10th, 2023 in Colorado Springs, CO. Please check out the corresponding Facebook Group for more details as the date gets closer. Everyone who ever knew and cared for Curtis is absolutely welcome: the more the merrier, just as Curtis would have wanted it.
