Ethel "Sue" (Coore) Simpson

Ethel “Sue” Coore Simpson, age 87, of Vass, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 4:00PM at Mt. Pleasant Church with Rev. Dr. Greg Poplin and Pastor Chandler Wilkes officiating.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 3:00-4:00PM.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sue was born in Moore County on June 1, 1937 to the late Frank Dortch and Lula Cameron Coore.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Paul Duwayne Simpson; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Simpson Spruill; sisters, Sylvia Coore Pies, Janet Coore Barfield, Frances Coore Smith; brother, Paul Buie Coore.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Earl Franklin Simpson; daughter-in-law, Leanne Simpson; grandchildren, Kelly Haddock (Ben), Shannon Smith (Brandon), Audrey Burns (Hunter), Chad Simpson; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Sage, Ayden, Bristol, Charlotte and loved by many nieces and nephews.

Sue retired as a dedicated employee from FirstHealth after 40 years of service.  She devoted her life to her family and her church.  She was well known for her Potato Casserole and Pound Cake.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was loved very much and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
