Herman Cameron Thomas, Jr.

Herman Cameron Thomas, Jr., age 79, of Vass, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, surrounded by family.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 3:30 pm at Barbeque Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sanford with Pastor Russell Blackman officiating.

Cameron was born in Harnett County on November 13, 1942 to the late Herman Cameron Thomas and Mary Kate Darroch Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Anderson Thomas.

Following some of his families’ footsteps, Cameron had a love for racing. He spent his earlier years at the race track either as a spectator or driving car #07. He was also an avid hunter all of his life and loved nothing more than spending time in the woods with his sons, grandsons and large number of hunting buddies. Music was a big part of his life and he spent more than 15 years playing with his music family, whom he loved dearly, at Thurlows.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Tanis Ring Thomas; children; Lundia Patrice Gohier (Robert), Herman Cameron Thomas, III (Amy), Aaron Shane Thomas, all of Olivia; Clayton Paschal Thomas of Vass; grandchildren, Jessica Thomas, Ashley Gohier, Hunter Thomas, Austin Thomas; sisters, Cornelia Stewart of Lillington, Thelma Persing (Larry) of Longs, South Carolina.
