Kathleen Helen Jansen, 96, of Vass, died peacefully, Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at the Health Center of St. Joseph of the Pines

A Celebration of Life will be held January 18th at 2:pm, at Cypress Springs Presbyterian Church, 1220 Cypress Church Road, Cameron, NC.  The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service

Kathleen was the daughter of the late Peter L. Germiller and Catherine Lynch Germiller of Poughkeepsie, NY.  She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Raymond C. Jansen.

She was known as Kay to the family and Kit to her many friends.  Kay graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Poughkeepsie, New York, with the class of 1943.  She practiced nursing for 37 years before retiring to Barefoot Bay, Florida.  She enjoyed traveling and during their working years she and Ray were able to live in New York, Connecticut, California and Florida.  A highlight for her was a trip to Europe where they visited the major landmarks as well as places Ray had seen during his service in WWII.

Kay was president of the Barefoot Bay Garden Club, a volunteer at the Mainland Library, Barefoot Bay for 15 years.  Her love of puzzles and reading stayed with her until the end. 

Kay is survived by her three children: Charles R. Jansen (Deborah), Deborah Kirschke (Richard), both of Vass and Gretchen Japhet (Alain) of S. Orange, NJ.

She was predeceased by her brother James L. Germiller and is survived by three sisters: Barbara Gurbel(Pine Plains, NY), Dorothea Whiting,( Longmont, CO) and Bernice MacIsaac (Poughkeepsie, NY)

She leaves behind five grandchildren (Michael, Colin, Adam, Christopher and Sarah)and three step-grandchildren (Heather, Peter and Jillian), seven great-grandchildren (Adam, Samuel, Fearne, Emma, Vivienne, Eric,  and Elena) and three step-grandchildren (Isabella, Olivia, and Elias).

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Joseph of the Pines Guild, 100 Gossman Dr., Suite B, Southern Pines, NC 28387 (attn. Caroline Eddy).
