Kimberly Greene Obituary

Kimberly Smith Greene, age 67, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.  She was born November 16, 1955 to Doris Elaine Rowley Smith and Edwin Thomas Smith of Spencerport, New York.

Education was a lifetime pursuit for Kim.  She earned degrees from Spencerport High School, Alfred State College, University of Alaska Fairbanks and Webster University.  She enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, where she met and married J. Farrell Greene of West End, North Carolina.  They relocated to North Pole, Alaska, where they had many Alaskan adventures.  Upon returning to the lower 48 and settling in Carthage, North Carolina,  Kim enjoyed a successful career as a Safety Specialist at Womack Army Medical Center.

In 2004 Kim became disabled, recovering in time with support of friends and family, especially sister Jenny, sister-in-law Libby Woodard and mother-in-law Mary Greene.  At Wayside Presbyterian Church, she was mentored by pastor Betty Sherrod and grew in her Christian faith.  Kim devoted herself to service and was elected a church elder.  She also volunteered at Given Book Shop and Sandhills Community College.  She could always be counted on to help out, whatever the need.

Kim loved keeping in touch with friends and family and enjoyed sending greeting cards.  She was an avid reader and crossword solver.  She enjoyed sewing and keeping tabs on the hummingbirds at her deck feeder.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Jennifer Sieg, brother, Gene Smith, and her ex-husband.  She is survived by brothers Neal Smith (Jo) of Jacksonville, Oregon and Wayne Smith (Diane) of Canton, Michigan, sister Lynn Smith Boyles (Rick) of Caddo Mills, Texas and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 21, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Wayside Presbyterian Church in Sanford.
