Leatha Utley Ferebee

Leatha Mae Utley Ferebee, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29,2020 at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines. She was born September 2, 1935 in Moore County, NC to Calvin and Annie Ratcliff Utley. She married her love, Raymond W. Ferebee Sr. in 1965 and he and her brother, Andrew Junior Utley predeceased her. 

She was a graduate of Berkley High School; Aberdeen, NC Class of 1953 and Barbara Scotia College; Concord, NC (cum laude) Class of 1958. She did extensive graduate and post graduate work at Beaver College; Glenside, PA and at other institutions. Upon graduation from college, Leatha went to Philadelphia, PA and stayed 41years, working for the School District of Philadelphia for 35+ years where she retired in 1993. 

In 1999 she returned to Aberdeen, NC where she was a faithful member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church; Southern Pines, NC and also served as the Berkley High School reunion chairperson from 2003-2005. 

Leatha will be sorely missed by her sisters; Lois U. Banks of Aberdeen, NC and Annie U. Watlington of Philadelphia, PA, brother; Ufa D. Utley of Aberdeen, NC; two nephews raised as siblings; Uziah R. Utley of Aberdeen, NC and O'Neal D. Utley of San Diego, CA; a devoted nephew; George P. Watlington Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; two devoted nieces; Apostle Andria U. Weekes of Taylortown, NC and Judy B. Stephenson (David) of Louisville, KY; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date. No public viewing will be held.
