Mary Lucille (Yarborough) Pilson

Mary Lucille Yarborough Pilson, age 72 of Cameron, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Cameron Methodist Church with Pastor William Altman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow at Cameron Community Cemetery.

Mary was born in Lee County, North Carolina on December 24, 1948, to the late David Howard and Essie Mae Thomas Yarborough. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Garner Yarborough and sister, Janet Mills.

She was known as the “Community Grandmother.” She loved the beach, working in her garden and with her flowers. She and her husband David were life-long soul mates and were married for 18 years.  Lucy loved her brothers and sisters dearly and always looked forward to the sisters’ annual beach trip. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will certainly be missed.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Venise Dawn Smith of Cameron; sisters, Peggy Ayers (Carl) of Sanford, Darlene Lineberry (Mike) of Cameron, Kay Smith (Melvin) of Cameron, Sue Locklear (Mike) of West End; brothers, Howard Yarborough (Hilda) of Cameron, Lonnie Yarborough of Cameron; grandchildren, Adrianna, Luke, and Elijah “Thumper;” great-grandchildren, Aidan and Athena, and a host of nieces and nephews.
