Raymond Waylon McKinney Obituary

Raymond Waylon McKinney, age 88, of Cameron, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 2:00pm at Cameron Baptist Church with Pastor Jared McNeill and Pastor Lee McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Cameron Community Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 1 until 2.

Waylon was born in Harnett County on January 30, 1934 to the late Phillip Raymond and Flossie Pace McKinney. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Lemons McKinney, step-sons, James and Jerry Holt, brothers, Marvin and Mack McKinney.

In his younger days he loved to fly his airplane. Many in the community knew him for running the F&W Market in Cameron on old US 1 for several years.

On Saturday nights you could find him at the Lee County Senior Enrichment Center dancing the night away.

Waylon also loved traveling from the mountains to the beach in the camper with his family. With each trip holding precious memories.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy McKinney Ferguson (Tim) of Cameron; sisters, Gail McKinney Fitzgerald of Florida and Bea McKinney Nelson (Melvin) of Cary; grandchildren, Adam Ferguson (Ginny), Chase Ferguson (Megan), Jimmy Holt (Tammy), Kevin Holt and Cori Ferguson; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Waylon McKinney to Lee County Senior Enrichment Center, 1615 S 3rd St, Sanford NC 27330.
