Rhuteen (Adams) Wilkie

Rhuteen Adams Wilkie, age 86, of Sanford went to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Sanford Health & Rehab, surrounded by her family.

A Going Home Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 12:00pm at East Sanford Baptist Church with Pastor Caleb Gibson and Pastor David Denton officiating. Burial will follow in Shallow Well Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 11 until 12.

Rhuteen was born in Wake County on July 31, 1935, to the late Lonnie and Madgree Cotton Adams.

Rhuteen was a longtime member of East Sanford Baptist Church. She retired from the Lee County School System and also worked at Ron’s Barn for 20+ years. She was a great friend and extra mother to countless and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She touched the lives of so many and will be remembered for her zest for life and her hardy laugh. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will forever live in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, James Fred Wilkie; children, Teena Batson (Michael) of Sanford, Woody Denton (Beth) also of Sanford, Pastor David Denton (Debbie) of Angier; grandchildren, Ashton Morse (Libby), Ashley Morse, Isaiah Kinney, Iaan Kinney, Scottie Horne; great-grandchildren, Dillon Horne, Caroline Morse.
