Robert Scott Burnette, Sr.

Robert Scott Burnette, Sr., age 78, of Cameron, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 2:00pm at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Brown and Pastor Bill Altman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1 until 2.

Robert was born in Moore County on October 31, 1946, to the late Raymond Scott Burnette and Florence Medlin Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Carlyle, Effie Marks, brothers, James Ray Burnette, Bruce Medlin, Junior Burnette.

He was an avid Duke fan and always dressed in Duke Apparel. He enjoyed farming and tractors, mainly Fords and spending time on his backhoe and bulldozer. He also enjoyed the game of golf especially wrecking golf carts with his friends Tony, Larry, Archie, Soul, Danny and Steve. Robert loved cars, and working on motors, bodywork and painting. His wife Mary was the love of his life he was always spoiling her with gifts. He also loved his children and grandchildren, and he was a father figure to many. Robert loved his friends being around him telling jokes and laughing. He was a great man, provider and father he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Oakley Burnette; children, Donna Fipps and husband Terry of Tabor City, NC, Robert “Bobby” Scott Burnette, Jr. and wife Mary of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Houston Davis, Victoria Stalls and husband Jay, Austin Burnette, Jacob Burnette and wife Payton, Kyrstin Harootian and husband Dakota; great-grandchildren, Preston, Jade, Blakely, Atleigh, Boston.
